been various settlers and active community members who occupied the property
before the restaurant was rooted here. The restaurant is located in Buckingham
Québec, famous for its’ quaint charm of a lumber town, made prominent by the
MacLaren family. The MacLaren family, emigrated from Scotland with their two
sons and wife to start a lumber industry. They settled and lived at the address
of 118 Church St, currently the home of BJ Restaurant. The MacLaren family
dominated the lumber industry in the entire with their operation, J. MacLaren
& Co for over a decade. This family was extremely successful and
contributed to the livelihood and economy of Buckingham at this point at time;
they generated revenue, population and recognition to this region. The MacLaren
family has many properties including a gristmill, a mill, a general store at
the mouth of Gatineau and their home. BJ
restaurant is proud to keep the integrity and heritage of the home intact,

The MacLaren
family is credited to being the first settlers to establish themselves and
contribute civilization to this area. The MacLaren’s general store was the
central core of the town from 1848 to 1912, the general store sold goods and
produce, fresh food and was a post office and had banking services available to
locals and visitors. All roads coming in were connected and led to the general store;
it was on the main route in this region and generated advancement and income in
this area. Later on, the MacLarens added tailoring services, manufacturing of
clothing and hired seamstresses. The general store and the mill, run by eldest
son, Jon MacLaren provided the first form of community, generated the economy
and created a rich history for everyone to encounter.
The MacLaren
family was the foundation of the town of Buckingham
and founded the community and adopted the responsibility of the internal
workings of the town. BJ restaurant is very proud to live on the tradition and
heritage of the MacLaren family by being situated in the original home of the
family. The Canadian heritage of the home where bj restaurant is located, provides
character and leaves a legacy of the primary settlers of this region by being
situated in the very family home of the MacLarens’.
